Infection Control Policy
Infection Control Policy for Needelwork Body Art

Policy Statement: Needlework Body Art is committed to maintaining a safe and sanitary environment for both our clients and staff members. This infection control policy outlines the procedures and protocols that must be followed to prevent the spread of infections and ensure the well-being of everyone within our establishment.

1. Hand Hygiene:
1.1. All staff members must wash their hands thoroughly with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds before and after each client interaction, as well as after handling any equipment.

2. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):
2.1. All staff members are required to wear appropriate PPE, including disposable gloves and disposable aprons, when performing body piercings.
2.2. Face masks or shields can be worn by staff when interacting with clients upon request, and clients are invited to wear face masks during their visit if they wish to do so.

3. Sanitisation and Disinfection:
3.1. All surfaces, including piercing chairs, countertops, and door handles, must be regularly cleaned and disinfected using EPA-approved disinfectants.
3.2. Piercing equipment, including needles, forceps, and jewelry, must be sterilized using autoclave equipment that meets industry standards before each use.
3.3. Single-use items, such as needles and ink caps, must be disposed of in designated sharps containers immediately after use.

4. Sterilisation Procedures:
4.1. Sterilization equipment must undergo routine maintenance and validation to ensure proper functioning.
4.2. All staff members responsible for sterilization must be trained in the correct use of sterilization equipment and follow manufacturer's guidelines.
5. Client Health Screening:
5.1. Prior to any piercing procedure, clients are required to fill out a health questionnaire that includes questions about their medical history and recent illnesses.
5.2. Clients who are unwell or show any signs of illness (e.g., fever, cough, or respiratory symptoms) must reschedule their appointments.

6. Jewelry Handling:
6.1. All body jewelry should be stored in clean, closed containers until use to prevent contamination.
6.2. Clients are provided with aftercare instructions, and they are advised to avoid touching their new piercings with dirty hands.

7. Bloodborne Pathogens:
7.1. Staff members are trained in bloodborne pathogen exposure control and follow universal precautions when dealing with blood or bodily fluids.
7.2. Appropriate first-aid measures are taken if an accidental exposure occurs, and all incidents are documented.

8. Reporting and Record-Keeping:
8.1. Any incidents involving potential exposure to infectious diseases or client infections must be reported immediately to Kayleigh-Anne Walker (Buisness Owner).

9. Training and Education:
9.1. All staff members receive regular training on infection control protocols and must stay up-to-date with the latest industry standards.
9.2. Clients may request information regarding our infection control practices, and staff members should be able to provide this information.

Review and Revision:
This infection control policy will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary to ensure it remains in compliance with the latest industry standards and regulations.
